Extract Parts from a PDF Score Without Notation Software

You have a score PDF. You need individual parts. You don't have Sibelius, Finale, or MuseScore - and you shouldn't have to. Unscore Me splits the score directly from the PDF.

The notation software trap

Sibelius and Finale can extract individual parts - but only from their own file formats. If your score exists as a PDF (downloaded from IMSLP, scanned from a library copy, or exported from software you don't own), you're out of luck. Importing PDF into notation software is a process that produces unreliable results at best and requires expensive licenses regardless.

MuseScore can import some PDFs via optical music recognition, but the results are often messy, require significant cleanup, and still require you to re-export from within the application.

Unscore Me takes a different approach: it doesn't try to understand the music. It treats the score as a document, detects where each instrument's row lives on the page, and slices those rows out into separate part PDFs. No re-entry. No OCR errors. No notation software license.

Workflow comparison

Without Unscore Me

  • Buy or borrow Sibelius / Finale ($100-$600/year)
  • Attempt PDF import - often fails or corrupts layout
  • Manually fix import errors, re-enter missing notes
  • Configure part extraction layout
  • Export each part individually
  • Hours of work. Hundreds of dollars.

With Unscore Me

  • Upload your score PDF
  • Label instruments in the visual editor
  • Download parts
  • Minutes. Free to try.

How it works

  1. Upload your PDF. The system detects staff systems across all pages using image analysis - no music understanding required.
  2. Label instruments in the editor. Click each detected row and type the instrument name. Adjust boundaries if the automatic detection isn't perfect.
  3. Download your parts. Each instrument gets a clean PDF, with your score title and instrument name on every page.

Frequently asked questions

What if I only have a PDF scan, not a Sibelius or MuseScore file?
Unscore Me works directly from the PDF. You do not need the original notation file. It analyzes the page image to detect and extract staff rows.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. Accuracy is highest on digitally typeset scores, but scanned scores with clear, high-contrast staves work well too. The segment editor lets you correct any detection errors manually.
Can I re-export after editing labels?
Yes. Edit labels and boundaries, regenerate, and download as many times as you need during the file retention period.
Do I need music theory knowledge?
You need to recognize instrument rows visually in the score to label them correctly, but no music theory knowledge is required.
Is this a replacement for Sibelius or MuseScore?
No - it solves a different problem. Sibelius and MuseScore are notation editors. Unscore Me is for when you already have a PDF and need parts without re-entering a single note.
